10 Practical Ways to Improve Yourself Every Day

Updated: Feb 19, 2022

We all have that version of ourselves that we hope to become in a few years. We have dreams and aspirations of what we hope to achieve. But to get to where we want to be, we must work towards becoming that version of our future self.

Most times, we get carried away by the activities in our lives, like paying bills and taking care of the family, that we sometimes forget to make time to improve ourselves.

Improving yourself doesn't have to be a big upcoming project. You can constantly work on yourself every day.

Are you passionate about self-improvement? Learn ten practical ways to improve yourself every day.

1. Wake up Early

Many acknowledge that waking up early improves their productivity for the day.

Waking up early gives you the chance to plan your day and spend some time with yourself, free of distraction. You can wake up early to cook a healthy meal, exercise, or write down your plans for the day.

Waking up early will leave you with a new wave of energy to carry out your daily activities.

2. Create an Exercise Routine

The benefits of exercising are endless. Exercising, aside from improving your physical health, can boost brain power, increase alertness, reduce anxiety, and improve your self-confidence.

You can start by creating an exercise routine for the week or month. Don't push yourself too hard. You can begin with 20 minutes of exercise daily. You might also want to download an exercise app to help you remain consistent with it.

3. Eat Healthily

Eating healthy foods comes with several health benefits. It gives your body the nutrition it needs to carry out daily activities. It also improves your mood and helps prevents you from developing chronic diseases. Make it a duty to eat something healthy every day. For example, you can resolve to include at least two fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Avoid excessive intake of soda drinks and fatty foods.

4. Set Realistic Daily Goals

Start your day with a to-do list. Avoid setting unrealistic goals that you can't finish in a day. Approach your to-do list with a mindset to be productive. Look at those tasks as bits and pieces of the bigger goal.

Stay focused on the tasks on your lists and avoid distractions. Tick the activities as you complete them. Doing this will give you a great sense of fulfillment.

5. Read Everyday

Reading expands your knowledge and helps build your vocabulary. It also improves your brain power and reduces stress. It might not be easy to read every day but, you can start by reading in bits. For example, you can read a chapter a day or 20 mins a day.

6. Get away from your comfort zone

Comfort is a killer of success. Growth can only take place when you leave your comfort zone. Identify those areas and challenge yourself every day to do something you've never done before. It could be finally starting a blog or a YouTube channel. It could also be learning a new skill or hobby. Stretch yourself beyond what you know.

7. Improve Your Skills

Take out time to sharpen your skills every day. You could watch videos or take an online course. Look for ways to become better at what you do every day. Doing this will help you become more valuable to your company or clients. It will also give you a sense of fulfillment and pride.

8. Meditate

Meditation is a great way to reduce stress and reflect on the day. It helps you sleep better and become more productive. Create time, perhaps at the beginning of the day, and practice meditation.

9. Try a New Hobby

Is there something you've always wanted to try? Beyond your regular hobbies, stretch yourself further and try out new activities. They could be painting or cooking, for example. Trying new hobbies will help you develop new passions and interests that ultimately improve your self-esteem.

10. Keep a Journal

A journal is a great place to share your ideas and thoughts, free of judgment. Journaling helps you keep track of your activities and can help you become more aware of yourself. You can easily track your thoughts and ideas written in your journal and improve on them.

Practice these few tips and make it a duty to work on yourself every day. The result might not be instant, but with consistency, you will eventually see improvements.
