7 Easy Ways To Show Yourself Some Much-Needed Kindness

Updated: Feb 19, 2022

Are you self-compassionate?

Some of the world's most kind, loving, and beautiful people overlook their well-being. However, if you are not treating yourself with compassion, you cannot expect a healthy degree of emotional and spiritual wholeness.

So, how do you bestow some much-deserved kindness on yourself?

As is often the case with transitions, it's crucial, to begin with, something small. You might start by just acknowledging when you're having a bad day and allowing yourself to experience your emotions fully.

Consider the following easy actions toward self-kindness:

1. Self-forgiveness.

The concept may appear straightforward, yet it is frequently the most challenging thing for many individuals to perform. When someone we care about makes a mistake, we quickly forgive them. Yet, we are frequently tough on ourselves and fail to accept the same forgiveness for some reason.

  • Although you may not be able to forgive yourself quickly, it is critical to begin practising as soon as possible.

  • Take a step back the next time you feel irritated over something you've done, said, or thought. Consider how you would respond to your BFF who committed the same offence. If you would forgive another person, make that attempt to forgive yourself as well.

2. Take care of your physical health.

Maintaining physical health takes a sustained commitment. However, it does not have to be as difficult as it appears.

  • For instance, the next time you have lunch, consider whether you can opt for a healthier option. If you're too exhausted to prepare something from home, stock up on freezer meals instead of stopping for fast food.

  • Consider how you may incorporate small amounts of more physical activity into your day as well. For example, could you walk to the store instead of driving? Not only will you get some additional exercise, but you'll also save money on fuel and help the environment. It's a triple benefit.

3. Seek assistance as necessary.

It's natural to believe that you're on your own when confronted with adversity. However, assistance is frequently available if you are ready to ask for it.

  • If you're having difficulty at work with various responsibilities that are too large for you to handle alone, speak with your managers or your team and seek guidance.

  • If you're concerned about depression, anxiety or mental health, do not isolate yourself in your room and attempt to "get over it" on your own. Consult a therapist or your physician to discuss your options. Getting the appropriate care when you need it can mean the difference between weeks and months of discomfort.

4. Spend time with family and friends.

Want to make self-kindness effortless? Spend time with the individuals you care about. They'll instinctively provide you with the kindness you deserve and help you understand why self-care is so critical.

If you're beating yourself up over anything, your friends and relatives can also help you see the situation differently.

  • Human beings are sociable creatures by nature. Spending time with others is one of the most effective ways to boost your mood and maintain your emotional wellness. It's also an excellent strategy to avoid self-isolation when you're feeling low.

5. Schedule time for self-care on your calendar.

We frequently struggle to plan regular self-care into our hectic schedules. If you're having difficulty finding time for self-care, it may be worthwhile to incorporate a dedicated "self-care" day into your routine. Schedule it on your calendar just as you would a work meeting.

  • You can do whatever you want on your self-care day to make yourself feel wonderful. Activities could include taking a relaxing bubble bath, reading a book, or watching a movie. Self-care can also involve experimenting with meditation, deep breathing, and relaxation techniques.

6. Get adequate sleep.

Ascertain that you receive adequate sleep each night. 7-9 hours is a sufficient amount of sleep for most adults.

  • Sleep quality is fundamental. The more sleep you get, the more equipped you will be to deal with the daily obstacles you confront without feeling overwhelmed or exhausted.

  • Establish a soothing night routine, a dimly lit bedroom, and a comfy bed. Avoid screens, alcohol, caffeine, and a large/heavy meal in the hours preceding your retirement.

  • Finally, reach for your blankets if you require an emotional, physical, or spiritual boost. Extra sleep can be vital for resting and recharging during your daily schedule.

Being friendlier to oneself has a slew of advantages! Each day, do something pleasant for yourself, and you'll quickly find that it becomes a natural part of your daily routine.
